CAPE TOWN - Firefighters will remain in the Table View area today to monitor possible flare-ups of a blaze in the Table Bay Nature Reserve.
The fire broke out in the Rietvlei section of the reserve late last night and its cause is still unknown.
Teams managed to contain the blaze working tirelessly to prevent the flames from spreading to the Sancob Seabird Centre.
More than 300 penguins and other seabirds had to be evacuated early this morning.
They were returned to the shelter hours later and are currently undergoing rehabilitation.
The Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service's Liesl Moodie said, "Currently we still have firefighters on the scene and they will remain there for the remainder of the day until the fire is extinguished." All pictures by Lauren Isaacs/EWN.
