ZIMBABWE Zimbabwe s ruling party is set to hold a fundraising dinner tomorrow night to raise money for next month's party conference, and it's hoping it will rake in US$1 million.

The conference is to be held in Victoria Falls, where President Robert Mugabe celebrated his 91st birthday earlier this year.

Seats at this dinner don't come cheap, with companies are forking out up to US$100,000 for the most expensive table.

That's difficult to believe, given Zimbabwe's current economic squeeze, but Zanu-PF's secretary for finance says the response has been overwhelming.

Last year, the guest of honour at this dinner was Joice Mujuru, the vice president who was sacked shortly afterwards during the annual conference.

This year, the guest of honour is the man who replaced her: Emmerson Mnangagwa, who says his own path to the presidency isn't guaranteed.
