Second video clip emerges in Krugersdorp ‘execution’ case

Ipid is verifying the authenticity of a video clip showing Khulekani Mpanza shooting at police.

JOHANNESBURG - A second video clip has emerged in the case involving four Krugersdorp police officers implicated in the execution-style killing of a suspected robber.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) told Members of Parliament on Wednesday that officials became aware of the existence of the video this week, but investigators have yet to verify its authenticity.

Parliament's Police Portfolio Committee was briefed on developments related to the case after CCTV footage of Khulekani Mpanza's murder surfaced online and was published by the Sunday Times.

Ipid's Robbie Raburabu says the latest video was recorded on a cellphone and shows the suspect shooting at police.

"The second video that actually came onto the fore on Monday, was the video where it shows the member moving from the business premises where he conducted the robbery. It shows him running away from police and also shooting at the police vehicle - that part of the video we don't have."
