CAPE TOWN - The Hanover Park Clinic has today temporarily shut its doors due to a resurgence of gang violence in the area.

Patients and staff will be relocated to the neighbouring Newfields Village Satellite Clinic.

The Hanover Park Community Policing Forum claims seven people have been killed in gang shootings in the last week.

A shooting incident near another provincial health facility forced its closure over the weekend.

The city's Siyabulela Mamkeli says the municipality could no longer risk the safety of patients and staff.

"I'd like to apologise to affected clients and tell them that we are doing our best to find a solution to resume operations as soon as possible in an environment that is conducive to staff and patient safety."
