CAPE TOWN - No arrests have yet been made after a suspected robber was beaten to death, allegedly by Khayelitsha residents.

Police say the victim was part of a gang of men who robbed a local grocery shop at the weekend.

A second suspect was apprehended following the robbery.

The police's Frederick van Wyk said, "The two suspects managed to escape an arrest. The circumstances for business robbery and the murder of the 23-year-old man are being investigated and no one has been arrested."

In August, a man was killed in an apparent vigilante attack in Lavender Hill in Cape Town.

The victim's charred body was found behind a block of flats.
