Masiphumelele community leader back in court next year
Lubababalo Vellem made his third appearance in the Simons Town Magistrates Court on Monday.
CAPE TOWN - A Masiphumelele community leader who was implicated in several vigilante attacks in the area, is due back in the dock early next year.
Lubabalo Vellem made his third appearance in the Simons Town Magistrates Court on Monday.
The crowd of supporters clapped and cheered as Vellem exited the gates of the Simons Town Magistrates Court yesterday.
One woman said there will be peace in the Masiphumelele community now that Vellem has been released.
"Vellem is like Nelson Mandela to us because he doesn't want anything to go wrong. Most of the people can listen to him because he's very wise."
Vellem has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and public violence.
At a previous court appearance, he was described as the ring leader behind a spate of mob justice attacks in Masiphumelele.
The case has been postponed to January.
