JOHANNESBURG - The four police officers behind bars for allegedly killing Khulekani Mpanza have now been served with suspension notices.

The officers will appear in court on Wednesday for the murder of the 32-year-old, who was caught by police for an attempted robbery and then shot dead.

CCTV footage of the incident shows Mpanza lying on a pavement unarmed before he was killed.

He appears to have been shot execution style.

The suspect had opened fire at police officers before being chased.

The police's Noxolo Kweza says, "I can confirm that the four members have been served with notices of suspension. They were served while in custody today. The four members now have 48 hours to respond in writing and indicate why they must not be suspended."

Earlier this year, eight Daveyton police officers were convicted of the murder of Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia after a video of the officers dragging him behind a police van went viral.
