JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested 12 people for public violence, after residents burnt tyres and blocked the main roads, following protest action in springs.
Some protesters clashed with police today in the Gugulethu informal settlement.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) say protesters damaged a police vehicle and two other cars.

It's still unclear what the residents are demanding, but demonstrations started at 6am this morning.
EMPD's Wilfred Kgasago says, "They are playing a 'cat and mouse' [game] because the main road is very close to the shacks, so they hide in the shacks and [when] we think things are quietening down they come out and throw stones."
