Discounts on owed e-toll amounts effective from today
Motorists now have 6 months to settle outstanding debt incurred between 3 December 2013 & 31 August 2015.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral)'s 60 percent discount on outstanding e-toll debt has come into effect.
As of today, road users have six months to settle outstanding toll debts incurred between 3 December 2013 and 31 August 2015.
The new dispensation is in accordance with changes announced by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in May.
Others include a 50 percent reduction in maximum monthly costs for registered motorists.
The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa)'s Wayne Duvenage says while many motorists are likely to use this opportunity to pay a lower fee, the whole
process is unlikely to improve compliance in the long run.
"They're probably going to raise their compliance levels. We anticipate they might be back to about 40 percent - it's currently down at 25 percent. But as
you know, a user pay scheme requires all users to pay."
