President Zuma joins fight against rhino poaching
Zuma will launch an operation centre at the Kruger National Park as part of Anti-Rhino Poaching Awareness Day.
The event takes place at the Kruger National Park, which has been the worst hit.
Government stakeholders, including the Environmental Affairs Department, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and South African National Parks (SANParks) will be involved.
Information coordination, partnerships with other countries and law enforcement agencies around the Kruger National Park will be prioritised as the fight against poaching is intensified.
In 2011, rhino poaching was declared a national threat to security.
The joint operation centre will be tasked with coordinating all stakeholders to enhance efforts.
Zuma will attend a community imbizo to address neighbouring communities on their role in the fight.
Traditional leaders, business owners and religious groups are also expected to be in attendance.
