Lack of rain results in water restrictions warning
The South African Weather Service says the country is experiencing below normal rainfall this season.
The persistent high temperatures and the lack of rainfall in the province has put a strain on Rand Water's bulk water supply system.
Residents in the cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni and have been urged to conserve water with supply under strain as a result of the recent heatwave.
Forecaster Cobus Cronje says the country is experiencing below normal rainfall this season.
"Within the next week we are not expecting any significant rainfall, if anything we are expecting some slight showers toward the end of the weekend into early next week, but nothing significant and nothing in the quantities that we would like to see for this time of the year."
