JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say they've arrested a constable in connection with a shooting at the Dunnottar police station on the East Rand.

In June, police officer Aaron Mahlangu was shot and wounded in a confrontation with three men who stormed the station.

An investigation led by Hawks has since revealed that a police constable had allegedly conspired with the group to rob the station of its firearms.

The constable is expected to appear at the Nigel Magistrates Court today.

Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says police retrieved telephone conversations which linked the constable to the suspects.

"Investigations revealed that he was in contact with the suspects before and on the night of the attack. We will be opposing bail. The constable is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and conspiracy to commit crime."
