JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water says it will reduce water supply to municipalities if the high demand continues.

The service provider is, together with the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni, urging consumers to use water sparingly.

Spokesperson Justice Mohale says persistent high temperatures in the province have put strain on its system.

"When the situation proceeds there's going to be a problem and one of the things that we'll have to do will be to reduce he volumes of water, which will be channelled through the municipality's' reservoirs, especially in the evening."
