‘Sexwale has right credentials for Fifa's top job'
Businessman Tokyo Sexwale at the weekend confirmed he would be running for the top job next year.
JOHANNESBURG - South African Football Association (Safa) President Danny Jordaan says businessman Tokyo Sexwale has the right credentials for the job as Fifa president.
Sexwale at the weekend confirmed he would be running for the top job next year.
The Fifa elections will take place in February.
This comes after long serving head Sepp Blatter was suspended pending investigations by the Swiss and United States authorities.
Sexwale will be looking to gain the support of Africa's 53 other Fifa member countries.
Jordaan says Sexwale has a long campaign ahead of him, but he has the right credentials for the job.
"He's been on many boards. He's been chair on many boards. So, I think he has the credentials, and of course he's been on Fifa committees for many years."
He says Sexwale's history on various Fifa committees will serve him well as president.
"If you look at one of the things required, especially leadership, I think there's no question that his leadership capabilities has been trusted over many years."
Sexwale will be up against four other candidates, including UEFA president Michel Platini.
