JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water and municipalities in Gauteng say persistent high temperatures in the province are putting a strain on its water supply system.

The service provider, together with the municipalities in the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni, are urging consumers to use water sparingly.

Rand Water spokesperson, Justice Mohale says the lack of rainfall in the province is exacerbating the situation.

"There has not been rain for some time, but we have been trying to meet the demand. Recently, the heat wave exacerbated the situation, but we believe that if it rains at least it will alleviate the burden."
