CAPE TOWN - A British couple on holiday in Plettenberg Bay has drowned.

Their bodies were found washed up at Robberg Beach yesterday and authorities have confirmed that sea conditions were rough with strong rip-currents.

National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon says paramedics tried to resuscitate them.

"When we arrived on the scene, CPR was performed on a 28-year-old male and a 26-year-old female. Despite extensive efforts, both were declared deceased on the scene and sincere condolences have been expressed to their families."
