Wits University campuses to remain closed on Monday
The university’s council met today to come up with a new proposal after a 10,5% suspended increase.
JOHANNESBURG - Wits University says its campuses will remain closed on Monday after days of protest by students opposed to a proposed fee hike for the next academic year.
The university's council met today to come up with a new proposal after a 10,5 percent increase was suspended following a stalemate between students and the executive on Friday.
Last week students embarked on a three day campus lockdown saying the institution hadn't properly consulted them on the proposed fee hike.
The university's Shirona Patel says they will meet with student representatives tomorrow.
"Our council will report to the students and their representatives at 12 noon tomorrow. The university will hover be closed tomorrow but all academic activities are expected to resume as usual on Tuesday."
