KZN woman arrested for beating & attempting to strangle boy
A video of the woman has surfaced, where she’s seen tying the boy (9) to a pole with a rope & beating him.
JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department says a woman from Nquthu has been arrested for assaulting a nine-year old boy for allegedly stealing a cellphone.
The woman was arrested after a video of her beating the child surfaced, where she is also seen threatening a resident who tries to stop the assault.
In the video, the woman is seen tying the boy to a pole with a rope, beating him with a stick and a sjambok while screaming at him.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department Spokesperson Ncumisa Fandesi says the woman also tried to strangle the boy using her full body weight, as he screamed for help.
"Social workers in Nquthu received information that a woman had badly beaten a boy and they responded. When they got to the area, they were shown a video."
She says this is not the first time a child has been assaulted by Nquthu residents after being accused of stealing.
"It was about a year ago when another woman attacked a school girl in a similar fashion."
Fandesi has warned the community they will face the full force of the law.
