More than 300 people displaced in Masiphumelele shack fire

CAPE TOWN - More than 300 people have been displaced after a fire razed their homes in Cape Town's Masiphumelele township.

The blaze destroyed the shacks in the early hours of this morning.

The city's disaster risk management and NGOs are assisting resident with food, blankets and rebuilding their homes.

Cape Town Fire Services spokesperson Liesl Moodie said, "Just after 3am the city's fire and rescue services responded to Masiphumelele where we had approximately 17 shacks on fire which left 300 people displaced. No injuries and fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage."
