Planning commission calls for implementation of NDP
The NPC says it will advise Cabinet on the implementation of development strategies.
JOHANNESBURG - The National Planning Commission (NPC) says South Africa needs to move beyond debating issues and start focusing on the implementation of solutions.
Chairperson and minister in the presidency Jeff Radebe has been joined by commissioners from various sectors at the NPC's meeting in Pretoria.
Today's gathering is the first since the announcement of the commission's new members last month.
The commission says it will now move to the next phase of its mandate to advise Cabinet on the implementation of development strategies.
Deputy chairperson William Makgoba says debates on South African issues often yield solutions which are not implemented.
Makgoba says the body will continue to push for the implementation of strategies even if they are met with resistance.
The commission was established in 2010 to promote the implementation of the National Development Plan.
It has vowed to also address energy shortages, South Africa's ailing economy and serious income divisions.
