JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo says there are plans to take action against officials found guilty of corruption, after declaring R2,6 billion in irregular expenditure within his department.

Mamabolo presented his quarterly performance review on project delivery earlier on Tuesday.

The MEC says he inherited a department that was financially underperforming.

He says lax internal control systems contributed to the high figure, however the situation has improved slightly over past two financial years.

Mamabolo says some officials are already being investigated.

"We will be taking action against any of our officials that have contributed to the irregular expenditure of about R2,6 billion."

The department says enhanced relations with the private sector have improved the financial outlook.
