CAPE TOWN - Time is running out for controversial AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo who's trying to appeal a 12-year jail sentence.

Today he will be arguing for yet another extension in order to avoid jail time should he be granted leave to appeal his 12 year jail sentence in the Constitutional Court.

The Xhosa Royal has nine days to hand himself over to Correctional Services.

His bail was extended last week by 14 days.

He was unsuccessful in appealing his conviction of a string of crimes committed during the 1990s.

Dalindyebo will now approach the Eastern Cape High Court for another bail extension today.

He was originally sentenced to 15 years in prison for ordering several villagers' homes be burnt and subjects to be tortured.

One person died during the attacks.

The King has announced his 23-year-old son Azenathi as his successor if his appeal fails.
