Hopes for end to coal sector strike
The NUM will be giving feedback to the Chamber of Mines on its latest offer today.
JOHANNESBURG - As power utility Eskom remains concerned about coal supply for its generators, it's hoped that the strike in the coal sector will come to an end today.
The union says the strike has seen about 30,000 coal workers down tools.
Workers are demanding a R1,000 increase while the employers are offering between R300 and R600.
The NUM's Livhuwani Mammburu says, "There might be a possibility that they accept the offer. We are communicating the mandate from our members and will take it from there. We're hopeful that something good might happen."
