CAPE TOWN - A lawyer claims anonymous threats could prejudice the case against a teacher accused of molestation.

Defence attorney William Booth told the Wynberg Magistrates Court his office received several threatening letters and messages regarding the matter.

The 32-year-old former Reddam House music teacher was fired earlier this year following allegations he sexually assaulted boys between 9 and 10.

Booth says anonymous threats related to the case against a former teacher accused of sexually molesting young boys has become a major problem.

"Myself and my staff have been receiving threatening SMSes. Letters have also been sent to my home indicating that I should not defend the accused in this matter."

In reply, the magistrate stated the court does not have control over how the public feels.

Booth's client is accused of inappropriately touching several boys during music classes at Reddam House in Constantia.

The matter has now been referred to the Wynberg Regional Court.
