‘There’s more to be done in addressing WC mob justice attacks’
Nyanga township recorded the highest number of murders at nearly 10 percent of all killings in WC.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Community Safety Department says more needs to be done to address the apparent increase in the number of mob justice attacks in the province.
Last week, the department gave analysis on this year's crime stats released by the national police commissioner and police minister.
Nyanga township recorded the highest number of murders in the Western Cape, at nearly 10 percent of all killings in the province.
Community Safety MEC Dan Plato says some residents feel there isn't enough being done by police so they resort to taking the law into their own hands.
He says many don't understand how the law works.
"They are of the opinion that many of the perpetrators that get arrested today and tomorrow they are released, and they just continue with their trauma in the communities. It says to me there is still a lot of educational work we as a government need to do."
