Tutu turns 84 today, De Lille announces plans to honour him

The last few weeks have been tough on the renowned cleric & his family as he’s been in & out of hospital.

CAPE TOWN - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu's daughter, Mpho, says her father is recuperating very well after several stints in and out of hospital over the last three months.

The last few weeks have been tough on the renowned cleric and his family as he's been in and out of hospital.

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille announced several plans to honour the Arch and his wife, including donating the Old Granary Building in Buitenkant Street to their legacy foundation.

Tutu turns 84 today.

A video celebrating the Arch's life was played ahead of the official handover of the Old Granary Building to the Desmond and Leah Tutu legacy foundation yesterday.

De Lille visited Tutu to tell him about the city's plans to honour him and his wife.

She said Tutu was in high spirits.

His daughter Mpho says her father is recovering well.

"His recovery has been a slow process but he does get better each day."

Meanwhile, social media is a buzz with birthday messages for Tutu.
