JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says new Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, was illegally sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP).

It says his appointment is not in line with the Electoral Act, which spells out the process parties have to follow when submitting names of candidates within a specific time frame.

The party's written to Speaker Baleka Mbete telling her to annul his membership.

The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says the president must also reverse Zwane's appointment as minister.

"Or else we will have to take further steps into court to make sure that the wishes of the Guptas in this country are not fulfilled."

Zwane, a former MEC in the Free State, was sworn in as Minister last month to replace Ngoako Ramatlhodi.
