6 arrested for destroying 8 houses in Sterkstroom
Three properties, including the home of a mayor, were burnt to the ground.
CAPE TOWN - Six people have been arrested after eight houses were destroyed in violent protest.
Three of the properties, including the home of a mayor, were burnt to the ground during the demonstration in Sterkstroom yesterday.
It's believed the chaos is centred around a political disagreement between two groups in the community.
The police's Namhla Mdleleni says the groups fought in the streets.
"They destroyed the mayor's house then proceeded to other houses. A case of arson was opened."
Mdleleni says another man has been arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly opened fire on a crowd. Police are monitoring the situation.
