JOHANNESBURG - The US embassy says it remains on high alert following its statement about a possible terrorist attack in South Africa.

The embassy says its statement from last month still stands, and it cannot offer any new information at this stage.

Last month, the embassy issued a statement warning its citizens that it had credible information of a possible attack by extremists against American facilities or interests in this country.

Meanwhile, the State Security Ministry says it will continue its investigation, but says there hasn't been any manifestation of the threat.

Interaction between the department and other intelligence agencies continues.

In last month's statement, the embassy warned US citizens to review their personal security plans and remain vigilant.

It did not have any information about a specific target or timing.
