‘It's a matter of days before Pistorius's parole application is heard again’
Oscar Pistorius could be released before the appeal of his culpable homicide conviction is heard.
PRETORIA - It could be only a matter of days before Oscar Pistorius's parole application is heard again depending on the board's schedule, according to an attorney familiar with the procedure.
The Correctional Services Department announced yesterday that it set aside the decision to release the athlete under correctional supervision and referred the matter back to the parole board.
The blade runner is serving a five-year sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day two years ago.
The appeal of Pistorius's culpable homicide conviction is exactly one month away, which creates the possibility that he could in fact be released before that matter is heard.
Attorney Julian Knight says it's all a matter of timing.
eNCA is reporting that the athlete's legal team is unhappy with the decision and is considering its options, saying there was a legitimate expectation Pistorius would be released.
