Krejcir to face more charges after foiled escape
Radovan Krejcir failed to execute an escape from his cell at the Zonderwater Prison last week.
JOHANNESBURG - National police say they have information that Radovan Krejcir's mother is among the people interested in ensuring his escape, and they're now working with European police to make more arrests.
The convicted drug dealer and kidnapper failed to execute an escape from his cell at the Zonderwater Prison last week when police confiscated a 99 millimetre pistol, a knife, cell phones and a Correctional Services uniform.
The police's Solomon Makgale says police are aware of a number of people who were involved in trying to help Krejcir escape from jail.
He says this includes South African government officials, businessmen, other inmates and people abroad.
Makgale says the state will soon bring more charges against Krejcir over his foiled escape.
"We've already had a forensic expert in his cell and our detectives have interviewed a number of people and are every close to effecting arrests."
Police say authorities are close to arresting the Correctional Services officials involved.
However, Makgale couldn't confirm whether police are specifically working with authorities in the Czech Republic.
