12 awaiting trial prisoners escape in Limpopo

JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police have confirmed 12 awaiting trial prisoners have escaped from two police stations.

The group made their brazen escapes from the Tubatse and Mecklenburg cells over the weekend.

In both cases the suspects are reported to have sawed their way out of the exercise room.

The men were arrested for a range of crimes including car theft, malicious damage to property and indecent assault.

The police's Ronel Otto said, "In total, 12 suspects managed to escape and the acting provincial commissioner has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances of the incident."
