EFF, DA student bodies claim SRC results were rigged
The groups protested after it was alleged that some ballot had been tampered with.
CAPE TOWN - Student organisations at the University of the Western Cape are refusing to acknowledge the results of SRC elections, claiming the process was flawed and that votes were rigged.
The groups protested at the Bellville campus last night after it was alleged that some ballot boxes had been tampered with.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Democratic Alliance (DA) student bodies, amongst others, consequently abandoned the counting process.
Despite their contestation, the South African Students Congress, was declared the winner.
The EFF's Palesa Mcophela said, "We found the ballots folded in other ballots, which implicates that other people were given two ballots, so they voted twice."
However, the Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA)'s Lindokuhle Mandyoli said the organisations raise the matter with the university but their objections were dismissed.
