Cop who helped suspect evade arrest 'has ties to gangs'
The 43-year-old appeared in court after she allegedly prevented two policemen from making an arrest.
CAPE TOWN -The Western Cape's deputy police commissioner says an officer who was arrested for allegedly helping a suspect evade arrest, is known for having ties with gangs in Kraaifontein.
Ella Moses briefly appeared in the Kuilsriver Magistrates Court yesterday on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
The 43-year-old police officer allegedly prevented two Saps members from arresting a man for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and told the suspect to make a run for it.
Provincial Deputy Police Commissioner Jeremy Vearey said, "Her involvement has come up on previous occasions especially because of her known links with gangs in Scottsdene. She was the subject of our focus for a while. There has been similar allegations made about her before."
She'll be back in court next Wednesday where she's expected to apply for bail.
