SA ranked 138th in WEF's Global Competitiveness Report
South Africa has been ranked 138 out of 140 countries in terms of Maths & Science education.
JOHANNESBURG - The latest World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report has placed South Africa almost last in terms of Maths and Science education.
The only two countries ranked lower are Egypt and Paraguay.
Last year's report put South Africa dead-last out of 148 countries.
The latest report paints a dismal picture of South Africa's Maths and Science results.
The World Economic forum has placed the country at number 138, out of 140.
In terms of internet access in schools, South Africa comes in at a bleak 119.
This is not the first time the country has been issued a negative score card.
Last year the Education Department criticised the rankings, saying they don't reflect the ability of pupils.
However, teaching experts say these figures show that the education system needs urgent intervention.
