JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau says he has moved his offices to Sandton for the month of October to show his commitment to the EcoMobility festival.

The festival officially starts today, but road closures, park and ride facilities and alternative modes of transport will only set in on Monday.

The aim is to discourage commuters from using their private vehicles in order to reduce congestion.

Tau says the city is on board with this initiative.

"I've personally already started changing the way I move to demonstrate the city's support for the festival and my commitment to EcoMobility. I've moved the mayoral office to the Sandton CBD for the entire month."
