JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane strongly believes that the two best teams in South African football are the Pretoria side and Orlando Pirates, who are currently on a quest to clinch their second African title.

Orlando Pirates are looking to add to their 1995 CAF Champions League success by winning the 2015 CAF Confederations Cup, but first they will have to get past defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt in the semi-final second leg on Sunday night.

Pirates will have very bitter memories of their last encounter with Al Ahly, having lost to them in the 2013 Champions League final and missing out on a chance to place a second star above the club emblem.

They go into the second leg with a 1-0 advantage which they took this past weekend, thanks to a Thami Gabuza goal.

Mosimane says the Sea Robbers' current exploits as well as their 2013, 2006 and 1995 performances in African competitions have given them the rights to be named South Africa's best team in continental competitions.

"I said it last year, I said Pirates has given us hope to go into Africa, and I respect them. For me they (Pirates) are the best team in South Africa, 'continentally' they have proved it, we can argue and say whatever, history says it and the facts are there." says Mosimane

The Sundowns coach boldly stated that his club is the best team in South Africa because they hold more Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles than any other team in the country and that, although it's great to win other cup competitions domestically, teams are only ever remembered for winning league titles and continental competitions, something only Pirates and the Brazilians have proven to be the best at.

With that said, Sundowns are still looking to win their first Telkom Knockout trophy and will begin their 2015 campaign against Chippa United on Saturday, hoping to draw inspiration from their last two results where they beat MTN 8 champions Ajax Cape Town and Jomo Cosmos in league action.
