Lentegeur records 70 percent rise in contact crime

CAPE TOWN - The Lentegeur Police Station in Mitchells Plain has recorded a 70 percent increase in contact crimes according to annual crime statistics.

This is 10 times more than the Western Cape increase.

The police station serves several areas in Mitchells Plain.

The number of murders reported to Lentegeur police station increased from 13 to 40 between April 2014 and March this year.

This amounts to a 207,7 percent increase.

There were 307 more incidents of aggravated robbery in the policing sector.

About 10 minutes from the Lentegeur Police Station, the Mitchell's Plain Police Station has delivered statistics which paint a very different picture.

Officers there have recorded a 9,6 percent drop in murder and an overall 8 percent decrease in contact crimes.
