Bishop Lavis man found with abalone worth R700k

CAPE TOWN - A Bishop Lavis man has been arrested after he was found with nearly R700,000 worth of abalone in his possession.

Police raided a farm where they found the suspect packing and weighing shucked abalone.

The police's Frederick van Wyk said, "Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries were summoned to the scene and counted 2779 of abalone weighing 423kg."

The 37-year-old is due to appear in court later this week.
