Branco du Preez recovers after shoulder surgery
The player will miss the opening two tournaments of the Sevens World Series in Dubai & Cape Town.
JOHANNESBURG - The Springbok Sevens are without key player Branco du Preez until the end of 2015.
The scrumhalf had corrective surgery on his right shoulder in a Cape Town hospital yesterday after experiencing discomfort for some time.
This means he misses the opening two tournaments of the Sevens World Series in Dubai and then Cape Town in December.
Du Preez made the decision to undergo surgery before the season gets fully underway, so that he can return to action at the start of 2016.
The upcoming season includes 10 tournaments in the World Series as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics Games.
Springbok Sevens team doctor Leigh Gordon, was pleased with the outcome of the operation, adding that the surgeons who operated to stabilise the shoulder joint were ultimately happy with the result.
The remainder of the Springbok Sevens training group are currently busy in pre-season training in Stellenbosch.
Their next warm-up tournament is at the end of October in Singapore.
