JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has warned motorists of heavy traffic from this hour in Sandton as officials conduct a trial run ahead of EcoMobility Month.

The initiative officially kicks off on Monday when certain roads will be closed off.

The festival aims to reduce congestion and encourage motorists to use buses, new cycle lanes and walk ways.

However, motorists will still be able to use their private vehicles.

The JMPD's Wayne Minnaar explains which roads will be closed off.

"Cones will be placed on Sandton Drive today between William Nicol and Grayston Drive. On Republic Road between William Nicol and Rivonia Street, and on Fredman Drive."

He also says officers will be driving on oncoming traffic lanes.

"Officers will be driving in the coned lanes driving to ongoing traffic between 3pm and 6pm as part of the trial run for the EcoMobility month."
