Report: Police foil Krejcir's attempted prison break
The Sunday Independent is reporting that Krejcir planned to escape from the Kgosi Mamphuru Prison in Pretoria.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have apparently foiled an attempted escape by Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir with a dramatic raid on his prison cell uncovering several items including a 9 millimeter pistol.
The Sunday Independent is reporting that Krejcir planned to escape from the Kgosi Mamphuru Prison in Pretoria, where he is being held after being found guilty of kidnapping, drug dealing and attempted murder.
The newspaper reports that a pistol, several rounds of ammunition and what appears to be a taser was found in Krejcir's cell during Saturday's raid.
The report claims the raid on his cell was done on Saturday after police received a tip off about his intention to escape.
Authorities also reportedly confiscated a pepper spray gun, a knife, 10 cellphones and a memory stick.
The report states that Krejcir intended to escape from prison before his next court appearance.
Correctional Services is yet to comment and clarify what action will now be taken.
