Security beefed up at Rhodes Memorial

The nose of the statue of Cecil John Rhodes at Rhodes Memorial was chipped off last week.

CAPE TOWN - SANParks says it has upped security at Rhodes Memorial following the vandalism of the Cecil John Rhodes statue.

Its nose was removed, with what SANParks says could have been an angle grinder.

SANParks' Wana Bacela says during the student-led protests by UCT's Rhodes Must Fall group, there was additional security around the statue.

"When the hoo-ha subsided we shifted our focus to ensure the safety of other infrastructure."
