EcoMobility gets positive response ahead of festival
Joburg motorists will opt for cycling or walking on 1 October when EcoMobility month kicks off.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau said as communication about the EcoMobility month escalates, more commuters are responding positively about easier access in and out of Sandton.
The festival which will kick off on the first of next month will encourage people not to use their private vehicles, but rather opt for public transport, cycling or walking.
Additional lanes and walkways are already being put in place.
Tau says this will help ease congestion for the month and going into the future.
"The general response has been quite positive. In certain instances it's been a bit ambivalent because people are not sure what to expect, but more and more people seem to be buying in as we continue to communicate and indicate what the alternatives would be."
