JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau says the Eco-mobility festival to be held in Sandton next month will have environmental and economic benefits.

Tau held an online press conference with the International Local Government's Association this afternoon.

The festival, which will kick off on 1 October, will encourage people not to use their private vehicles but rather alternative modes of transport to travel in and out of Sandton.

Tau says this is also about decreasing congestion in the city.

"For us there are both environmental benefits, but there are also economic benefits through reducing the amount of congestion in Sandton.

He says, "Those alternatives range from walking, cycling and other lesser energy intense alternatives."
