Two men arrested after youths robbed at gunpoint on JHB school fields
The boys were playing soccer when they were approached by two people who robbed them.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have arrested two people after a group of young men were robbed at gunpoint in Fourways.
The group was playing soccer at the King's College and Preparatory School on Monday evening when they were approached by the pair who robbed them of their cellphones.
The suspects were arrested with the help of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum and school security units.
The police's Balan Muthan says the victims were not hurt during the robbery.
"One of the youngsters still had his cellphone with him, so he contacted the police who reacted quickly. We managed to track the cellphone and arrested one suspect at the Engen garage on Malibongwe Road together with a firearm."
The second suspect was arrested later in the evening.
King's College says the young men are not pupils, but members of an external soccer club which hires its fields.
The school says no parents were present when the attack took place at around 8pm.
Note: An earlier version of this story stated the victims were pupils of the school, however police had distributed incorrect information about the people who were robbed. The story has been edited to correct this.
