JHB school robbery: No pupils were involved
Police said a group of youngsters were robbed at gunpoint at the King's College and Preparatory School.
JOHANNESBURG - The principal of the Kings College and Preparatory School in Fourways, Johannesburg, says no pupils were involved in an armed robbery that took place on its school grounds on Monday night.
Earlier, police said a group of youngsters had been playing soccer on the school's sports field when they were approached two armed men and robbed of a cellphone.
Principal John Pilkington has confirmed that several adults, all members of an external soccer club, were held up on the school's sports grounds.
Pilkington says the two armed men forced their way onto the property just after 8pm.
Police said that a group of 'scholars' had escaped the incident, but Pilkington insists no school pupils or parents were involved.
"No pupils or parents of the school were present or involved and it was well outside school hours. With excellent response from the campus security units, the [South African Police Service] and reservists; the perpetrators were apprehended within the hour."
