TB vaccine shortage to be resolved soon
The Health Ministry says the shortage was caused by the company that supplies the vaccine.
The Western Cape Health Department first reported shortages of the BCG vaccine, which is administered to newborn babies to protect them against TB.
Last year Motsoaledi's department announced that TB had officially overtaken HIV/Aids as the leading killer in South Africa.
The minister says the shortage was caused by the company that supplies the vaccine.
"The company that has been manufacturing decided to discontinue. But we have found a different company that has started manufacturing. The United Nations has also decided to help with some of the stock."
