CAPE TOWN - A Cape Town man with alleged links to an international child porn ring has been granted R5,000 bail.

The 45-year-old Fish Hoek resident appeared in the Simon's Town Magistrate Court earlier today.

He is charged with being in possession of child pornography and was arrested last week.

The man is one of nine South Africans who have been implicated in an international child porn syndicate.

Court proceedings started with a media application to allow photographers permission to take pictures of the accused inside court.

The state had no objections.

The accused's lawyer Anthony Berinato, however, argued that it was his client's constitutional right to have his identity kept confidential.

But magistrate Chrystal Mccannar granted the application.

The Fish Hoek resident's wife and children attended court proceedings, and were visibly nervous.

One of the man's daughter's broke down in tears during proceedings.

The case has been postponed to 4 November.
