JOHANNESBURG - Kevin Pietersen will be returning to the province of his birth after the Dolphins today confirmed the former England batsman would represent the Durban-based franchise for a portion of their RAM Slam T20 campaign.

Pietersen was schooled at Maritzburg College in Pietermaritzburg before leaving South Africa in 2001 to ply his trade in England. He went on to become the highest international run scorer of all time for his adopted country, accumulating a total of 13 779 runs.

He has become somewhat of a Twenty20 specialist in recent times, having represented a number of teams throughout the world, including the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League; the St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League; the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League and Surrey in the T20 Blast.

The Ram Slam begins on the 1 November, and Pietersen will be available until the 15 November, during which time he will represent the Dolphins for a total of five matches.
